PARQUE GÜELL

If you haven’t visited Park Güell yet, what are you waiting for? This famous park is one of the symbols of Barcelona; a jewel of Gaudí, the greatest exponent of Catalan modernism, which fuses monumental architecture and nature in a single and indivisible element.

The central point of the park is a large plaza in which there is a huge 110-meter-long bench, with the appearance of a snake covered by small pieces of ceramic. In the park grounds there is the Gaudí House Museum, with a collection of works by the architect and the Casa del Guarda, which houses audiovisual exhibitions on the park’s past.

JARDINES DE PEDRALBES 

It is one of the most stately and extensive gardens in Barcelona, both French and English style, the truth is that entering them transports us to a time when serenity and majesty were determining elements of the landscape.

When we walk through the magnificent wrought iron entrance gate, we are greeted by a large 7.28 hectare area (equivalent to 8 football fields). Once inside, the protagonists are the trees, paths and the large areas of grass and shade. PARQUE DEL LABERINTO DE HORTA

The Horta Labyrinth Park includes the oldest preserved garden in the city and is a romantic space, a harmonious walk full of architecture and nature.

Its name comes from the labyrinth of cut cypress trees that we can visit and explore in the lower part of the garden, as well as ponds, fountains, pavilions and sculptures. But the Horta Labyrinth park is much more than a huge labyrinth. Along the tour of the enclosure, you will find all kinds of flora, such as the Himalayan cedar, a linden, a Jupiter tree or a huge plantation of camellias.

It is a place that could well be considered a garden-museum, since you will find a route between neoclassical and romantic buildings, and gardens of all kinds. It is especially interesting to see how architecture and nature integrate and achieve perfect harmony with each other.

JARDÍN BOTÁNICO

Located in the Montjuïc Park, the Barcelona Botanical Garden offers visitors an enchanted walk through the vegetation of the five regions of the world with a Mediterranean climate. The function of the Garden is to preserve and make known collections of Mediterranean plants from around the world.

You will be able to enter the whimsical network of paths and discover the most characteristic plants of the main Mediterranean plant landscapes. PARQUE DE CERVANTES

We can say that the Cervantes park is one of the largest as it has an area of 87 665 m². You will find it located in the Pedralbes neighborhood, inaugurated in 1965.

It should be noted that every year a contest for new roses is held in this park, which are baptized with different names by their creators. In addition to the rose bushes, in the park there are several grassy areas and small groves, ideal for jogging, cycling, gymnastics or the simple art of contemplating in the heart of the Pedralbes neighborhood. There is also a children’s play area, table tennis tables and a picnic area.

PARQUE DE DIAGONAL MAR 

Diagonal Mar park is the third largest park in Barcelona and the most modern, in which its metallic structures stand out. It is an immense and sunny space with exuberant vegetation.

The park is divided into three areas, two smaller ones next to the littoral zone, both with a small pond, and a larger one that houses a larger lake, populated by ducks, geese and aquatic birds. A wooden bridge connects the two shores of the lake.

SANTA LLÚCIA CHRISTMAS MARKET

The Santa LLúcia Fira is par excellence the Christmas market in Barcelona and the oldest. It has been celebrating more than 234 years and this year could not be missed.

The “fair” begins at the end of November or beginning of December, with more than 280 stops arranged by sectors according to the items sold (nativity scenes and figures, vegetation and crafts) and located in front of the Plà de la Seu, on Avenida de Cathedral. The sellers will offer you, as they have always done since ancient times, all the products you need to decorate your home for the Christmas holidays. In addition, the little ones will be able to approach the giant Tió that will be presiding over the square.

Hours: From November 27 to December 23 from 11am to 8:30 pm on weekdays and from 10am to 9pm on holidays.

KÄTHE WOHLFAHRT

Käthe Wohlfahrt is a German store that has an incredible handmade Christmas decoration, located in the Gothic quarter of Barcelona.

You can teleport to a real Christmas market in Germany. The store is set like a Christmas village, in which each area is dedicated to specific products: nativity scenes, tree decorations, cuckoo clocks, nutcrackers, incense smokers and the traditional Christmas pyramids, which rotate due to the heat. of the candles and create games of light and shadow. It should also be noted that the shop assistants wear the typical local costumes and there is a huge tree in the center of the store that will leave you speechless.

Hours: Monday to Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

SAGRADA FAMILIA CHRISTMAS MARKET

Since 1962, a Christmas fair has been organized every year in the Plaza de la Sagrada Familia, the most traditional Christmas market in L’Eixample. This Fair coincides with that of Santa Llúcia, in front of the Cathedral. In fact, it is an extension of this since it began to be organized when there was no longer space for posts in front of the Cathedral. A group of artisans decided to move to the Dreta de l’Eixample and, in this way, a new Christmas market was born.

The numerous stalls that fill the square are divided into four sectors: that of Christmas trees and plants; that of mangers, traditional figures (such as the caganer), tions and Christmas decorations in general; that of food, with establishments for the sale of sweets; and the gifts sector, with stalls selling handicrafts, costume jewelery and clothing.

Hours: From November 28 to December 23, from 10am to 9pm from Monday to Friday and holidays, and until 10pm on Saturdays, Sundays and vigils.

Place: Plaza de la Sagrada Família.

MANGER EXHIBITIONS

Due to health reasons, this year the manger will not be able to be installed in Plaça de Sant Jaume as usual, however, there will be an exhibition based on a tour of the mangers of the last ten years. As if it were a nativity scene, the exhibition is structured around five of the main figures: the angel, the Kings, the birth, the animals and the caganer. In the exhibition we can see the interpretation that has been made of each of these five figures in the mangers that have been installed in Plaça de Sant Jaume over the years.

The exhibition can be seen on the ground floor of the Town Hall and admission is free.

Hours: Monday to Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

AQUARIUM OF BARCELONA

L’Aquàrium de Barcelona is a phenomenal option to experience the magic of Christmas surrounded by fish, sharks and other fascinating creatures.

It has more than 11,000 fish and marine creatures of 450 different species. These are divided into three spaces: Mediterranean aquariums (14 aquariums to discover the Mediterranean Sea), tropical aquariums (with exotic species and colorful fish) and the Oceanarium (the largest area of ​​the Aquarium, with an 80 meter glass tunnel that allows privileged views of, for example, sharks).

One more year, they have prepared different activities, workshops and magic shows to enjoy as a family on these dates where the illusion of the youngest children at home are the protagonists. Not only will they be able to enjoy the activities, but they will also be able to visit the Barcelona marine center, which is once again present in the alliance of 106 aquariums from 33 countries that have joined with the European Commission and the United Nations Program to the Environment with the aim of combating plastic pollution in the oceans and seas.

CHRISTMAS IN POBLE ESPANYOL

If your children like science, we propose a fun and educational plan for these parties, which is a visit to the Cosmocaixa, one of the most emblematic science museums in Barcelona. It is located in the heart of the upper area of ​​Barcelona, ​​very close to the Collserola mountain range and Tibidabo and its fantastic modernist building stands out.

MOST IMPORTANT ATTRACTIONS

Shambhala

It is the second highest roller coaster in Europe. With its 76m high and the longest fall of the park, it reaches a speed of 130km / h where adults and children can live an unimaginable adrenaline.

Dragon Khan

It is the second most visited attraction after Shambhala. On a 1,285m route it starts with a great descent followed by eight laps in just over a minute, reaching a speed of 110km/h.

Furius Baco

This incredible shuttle passes from 0 to 135 km / h in just 3 seconds. In its vertiginous route, it slides almost flush with the ground, crosses ditches, tunnels and even rubs the water of the lake of Mediterrània. It is one of the attractions where more adrenaline is released. It has 850 meters of travel.

Hurakan Condor

It is the second highest free fall tower in Spain. It goes up to 100m with views of the entire park and surroundings. For 86m and in about 3 seconds it accelerates up to 115km / h. Set in the ruins of an ancient Aztec tower full of hieroglyphs, this attraction represents the ritual of sacrifice in honor of God Hurakan.

Stampida

It is a roller coaster that simulates a race of wagons of the old west. Represents families who were constantly beating for getting new land with a blue and a red wheelbarrow. The climb reaches 25m high while traveling at 70km/h.

Tutuki Splash

It is the most famous water attraction in the park ideal for hot days. Several boats take a tour of submerged rails and along the way there are two descents, one small and one that descends from a volcano that is much larger.


TIPS & RECOMMENDATIONS

LOCKERS: the park has lockers at the entrance and distributed within it to leave things of value. They cost € 6 for all day.

FOOD: each theme area has its own theme restaurant where you can also enjoy dance and musical shows also typical of the area.

EXPRESS or FAST PASS BRACELETS: during the days of maximum influx (high season and special occasions such as: Halloween or Christmas) it is advisable to purchase the bracelets that allow access to major attractions with waiting times less than normal.

OPENING HOURS: The park opens from March to November from 10 am to midnight during the summer, and from 10 am to 7 pm in winter.

PRICES: There are different rates depending on the type of visitor and there are also several family packs and for days that also allow combined access with Ferrari Land (opened in 2017, it is the only park in Europe dedicated to the Ferrari team) and Caribe Aquatic Park .
